A middle-aged man, Saidi Taiwo (a.k.a Akinigai) slumped and
died in Ibadan, south west Nigeria shortly after consuming a locally made dry
gin popularly called ‘paraga.’
The incident occurred at a popular Paraga joint at about 10.30a.m on Saturday.
It was gathered that Taiwo's wife had recently given birth
to a baby boy and had abandoned the wife and the new born with his parents and
was staying with one of his friends.
A source close to the deceased said Taiwo was a commercial
bus driver, who ran away from his family’s responsibility and was staying with
a friend, simply identified as Wasiu.
Both Taiwo, who was 32 years old and Wasiu were said to be
going from one Paraga joint to the other
in celebration of the arrival of the baby before he eventually met his untimely
death.
The source added that his untimely death might not be
unconnected with his habit of excessive consumption of alcoholic drinks.
The death was reported at the Apata Divisional Police
Headquarters before the family later came to take away his corpse for burial.
