Ex-convict rapes 15 year-old orphan to coma

An ex-convict has raped a 15-year-old orphan, Miss Joy of  Ufukwoke Amanato in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State to coma.
The suspect, who hails from Udueze Umudoni in Igboeze Onicha in the same area had been involved in various heinous crimes that led to his conviction in the past. Last week, he allegedly raped the girl until she became unconscious and consequently impregnated her.

It was gathered that the suspect, who allegedly attacked the girl with a cutlass while on her way back from a Christian wake keep at about 5a.m, was on a revenge mission because according to him (suspect), Joy’s brother fought with him sometime ago.
The victim was said to have been dragged into an uncompleted school building in the area, where she was raped until she fainted before passers-by found her and took her to hospital.
A petition to the Family Law Centre in Abakaliki, the Mother and Care Initiative (MCI), a pet project of the wife of the state governor, Mrs. Elechi, stated that the victim, after the rape, became unconscious following the brutality she suffered in the hands of the rapist.
The Chairman of MCI, Revd Philip Chukwu stated in a petition that Joy, an orphan, and a sales girl, was in a critical condition and receiving treatment at the General Hospital, Onicha with no one to take care of her siblings.
According to the petitioner, “Joy, initially was unable to talk but due to medical attention, she is gradually gaining her strength and can now walk. The man in question (rapist) is a hardened criminal; he had committed different kinds of criminal activities including raping so many other girls in the past to the extent that he had gone to jail.”
He noted that laboratory analysis obtained from St. Luke’s Specialist Medical Laboratories, where pregnancy and HIV tests were conducted on the victim, revealed that she was pregnant from the rape but free of HIV.
The chairman of MCI appealed to the Family Law Centre to come to the aid of the girl and to stop future occurrence of such incidents and ensure the arrest and prosecution of suspected rapists.
Sequel to the petition, the chairman of Family Law Centre, Mrs. Elizabeth Nwali wrote to the police, urging them to arrest and prosecute the suspect, who had been on the run since he committed the crime.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Mr. Sylvester Igbo a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), when contacted, said he was not aware of the case but promised to inquire from the officers in charge.
