At last, INEC registers APC

After several weeks of anxiety, the opposition parties behind the merger party, All Progressives Congress (APC) have cause to be excited, as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday announced the party’s registration.

Since the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), the All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP), the Congress for Progressives Change (CPC) and certain stalwarts of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) announced their decision to dissolve into APC last February, the deal had been dogged by several challenges.
One of such controversies was the claim to the acronym, by several other groups. Among such political platforms were the African Peoples Congress, led by Chief Onyinye Ikeagwuonu and the All Patriotic Citizens, which were denied registration by INEC.
Announcing its decision to register APC, Secretary to the commission, Abdullahi A. Kaugama, disclosed: “The commission found that the applicant-parties have met all statutory requirements for the merger, and has accordingly granted their request.”
