Cathedral project raises dust in Nsukka

A Royal father in Enugu, Igwe Patrick Eze has questioned the continued delay of the  Cathedral project of Catholic Diocese of Nsukka, which according to him started about  20 years ago shortly after the Diocese was created.
Speaking on his expectation from the newly installed Bishop of Nsukka Diocese, Bishop Godfrey Onah, Igwe Eze, who is the traditional ruler of Amalla in Udenu Local Government Area of the state and a patron of Ohaneze Ndigbo, observed that the cathedral project had been a long time project wondering why it had not been completed.

“As far as I know, this cathedral project was embarked upon when the Diocese of Nsukka was created about 23 years ago. I was surprised to see on arrival for the installation of Bishop Onah, that the cathedral still requires a lot of work as the building looks like a relic of war; I am flabbergasted,” he said.
The monarch, who was recently installed as a member of Imeobi Ohaneze in his capacity as the patron of Enugu North (Nsukka) senatorial zone chapter of Ohaneze Ndigbo, urged rich men and political office holders in Nsukka Zone to donate funds for the completion of the cathedral regardless of their religious affiliation or denomination because the cathedral is a property of Nsukka land.
“The Cathedral is situated at Nsukka and I’m sure that nobody will ever take it to Onitsha or Rome. It will remain here with us and people will always see and talk about it as one of those things in Nsukka. So, let us join hands as a people to complete the project,” the monarch who is an Anglican, stated.
He described Bishop Onah as a man of sound quality with enough exposure and experience required to take Nsukka to the next level and thanked Pope Francis  for appointing him for the job, noting that the appointment was meritorious.
