Customs impounds N100m contraband

 

Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has intercepted contrabands concealed in four vehicles along the Lagos-Sagamu expressway with Duty Paid Value (DPV) worth N100 million.
The Comptroller of the NCS in the state, Mr.  Ade Dosumu while conducting newsmen round the seizure in Abeokuta, said that the  contraband included 15,000 cartons of frozen chicken and several bags of rice.

According to him, the contrabands were concealed in a trailer with registration number  KZR 130 XA, on its way to Onitsha market in Anambra State. Four persons were also arrested along with one 911 Mercedes truck with registration number XA 732ZLL, a Mercedez faka bus with registration number MUS 904 XB and a Toyota Hiace passenger bus with registration number XT 644 APP.
Dosunmu, who  lamented the economic loss to the country if the smuggling had succeded, stated  that the frozen chickens were injurious to Nigerians’ health.
