I was never Fani-Kayode’s girlfriend – Bianca Ojukwu

Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu’s widow and Nigeria’s ambassador to Spain, Mrs. Bianca Ojukwu, has described as false the claim by former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, that she was his girlfriend when she was a spinster.
Fani-Kayode had in his article, entitled: Neither a tribalist nor a hater, published in the social media and some segments of the national dailies, claimed to have met with Bianca when she was Miss Bianca Onoh at the Cambridge College and had “intimate” relationship with her together with two other Igbo ladies.

MTN rewards 17 Muslims with Hajj trips

A 19-year-old female student of the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, simply identified as Yetunde, is cooling off in the custody of the state Police command, Osogbo, for allegedly pouring hot water on her lover, Adelana also a student of the polytechnic.

Fake CNN correspondent nabbed in Bayelsa

A 36 years old man, Paul Yempe parading himself as the correspondent of the Cable News Network (CNN) in Bayelsa State was on Wednesday arrested in the office of the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Energy.
His arrest was made possible by the Chairman of the Bayelsa State chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Mr Tari Akono.

Young Shall Grow boss escapes assassination

Lagos was on Wednesday spared of another high profile killing when assassins attacked the vehicle conveying Chief Vincent Obianodo, Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Young Shall Grow transport company to his FESTAC residence.
Chief Obianodo escaped, but his driver and Corporal Ngozi Chijioke attached to Patrol and Guard, were not lucky. They were killed. The transport boss was shot in the hand. Two of the attackers were killed by the police.

Teacher gets 30 days in jail in rape of 14-year-old student who later killed self

A mother in Montana, USA is outraged that a high school teacher who admitted raping her 14-year-old daughter received only a month in prison, while her daughter took her own life.
"I think this sentence is a joke, a travesty," the mother, Auliea Hanlon, told CNN on Tuesday night, a day after the sentencing.
"People will lose faith in our justice system. I have," she said.

Chinese organ trafficker gouges out 6-year-old boy's eyes

A KIDNAPPER allegedly told a six-year-old boy in China, ''Don’t cry. Don’t cry and I won’t gouge out your eyes'' before carrying out the gruesome act.
The boy had his eyes gouged out, blinding him for life, in a gruesome attack that may have been carried out by a ruthless organ trafficker, reports say.

3 killed, 5 injured as NNPC tanker explodes …6 civilian JTF members shot dead

 Nine people died in separate incidents in Oyo and Borno states Tuesday. In the Ibadan, Oyo State, three people died with five others injured from burns when a Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) petrol tanker trying to offload fuel suddenly exploded and caught fire at Orogun Junction on Ojoo Expressway.
The three victims were said to have been burnt to death as the fuel flew into the area and exploded, it burnt property and human beings found along its path.
Two Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) and about eight shops in the area were also torched by the raging inferno.

Flood kills 7, destroys 1,529 houses in Bauchi

No fewer than seven people have died in three local government areas of Bauchi State following a downpour that also destroyed about 1, 529 houses. The Chairman of Distribution Relief Committee of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Muhammadu Bello confirmed the incident to Daily Sun yesterday in Bauchi, saying that property worth over N100 million were destroyed by the flood.

Gunmen attack 7 churches, shoot worshippers, set priests’ residence ablaze in Anambra

Hell was let loose in the early hours Tuesday at Oba-Ofemmili community in Awka-North Local Government Area of Anambra State, south east Nigeria when some youths, suspected to be cultists attacked Christians in their worship places, shot and inflicted machete wounds on over 50 of them.
The attackers also went on rampage, looting and burning churches in the community. Some of the churches burnt include Assemblies of God Church, Grace of God Church, Deeper Life Bible Church, Winners Church, Christ Holy Church, St. Paul’s Catholic Church and another pentecostal church.

18 killed in Benue massacre, as Catholic priest shoots self

It was a weekend of tragedies in Benue, Borno, Edo and Kaduna states which recorded 22 deaths including that of a Catholic priest who shot himself accidentally while cleaning his double barrel gun.  This was coming as gunmen massacred 18 people in two Benue State villages while gunmen killed three in Borno State.

Gov Suntai returns, looking confused, saying nothing

The return of Taraba State Governor Danbaba Suntai looked more bizarre following his return to Nigeria after 10-months of medical treatment in Germany and later in the United States.
Arriving at the Jalingo airport in Taraba State, Mr. Suntai was bizarrely prevented from meeting with the Acting governor, Alhaji Graba Umar, who was present to receive him.  As soon as he was assisted off the aircraft, his supporters ushered him into a  Range Rover SUV and drove off.

Boy, 15, flies into Lagos in plane tyre compartment

Spasms of shock ran through the spines of airport officials when a boy jumped out of the undercarriage of an Arik Air plane as it landed at Lagos Airport. The boy was instantly arrested.
Recounting the chilling story to newsmen, spokesman of the airline, Banji Ola said the pilot of its Benin-Lagos service (flight W3 544), while departing Benin Airport for Lagos at 9.00am  alerted the control tower of the presence of a strange boy in the bush about 200-300 meters at the end of runway 23.

Imam plots assassination of boss' younger wife

The police have arrested an Ibadan-based Imam, who wanted to avenge the cruelty of his boss to his senior wife by having her rival killed. Arowolo Lateef, 45, the Muslim cleric who doubles as a security guard at  a filling station owned by Mr Muyiwa Abidoye had hired Ikechukwu Christopher, 35, a self-confessed assassin based in Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State to murder, Mrs. Ololade Abidoye, his master’s favourite and new wife, as he said, was out of pity for the older wife, who he had watched being maltreated in the Abidoyes’ home.

Pastor impregnates church member, sells baby

 Judgment day came for pastor Emmanuel Onu as he was  arrested by the Imo State Police Command for allegedly conniving with others to sell his girlfriend’s baby for N100,000.
Pastor Onu had told the mother of the baby that her baby died in Abia State.

Tanker driver arrested for defiling 2-yr-old girl

 A 41-year-old tanker driver identified as Bashiru has been arrested in Calabar for allegedly defiling a two-year-old girl  and infecting her with a sexually transmitted disease.
The incident happened in Okom Ita, Akamkpa Local Government Area, Cross River State, when the two-year old girl  (name withehld)  strolled from her mother’s room  into  Bashiru’s apartment to play with the man she calls “uncle.”

Prison Break actor Wentworth Miller comes out as gay

I queried to know the reason for gratification even with his level as a one-time Chief Press Secretary to Ada Okwuonu, one time Media Consultant or whatever to whomever, he simply told me; "don’t you know that I am working for some people. If you want me to drop, you must be saying something I should understand."

Woman tortures househelp to death

 Police operatives have arrested a woman for allegedly torturing her female house-help to death at the Olodi-Apapa, Lagos. The suspect known as mama Christiana at Barrack Line, Suru Alaba, Olodi, Apapa, was alleged to have been beating the 16-year-old girl simply identified as Angel till she slumped and started gasping for air.
Sympathizers were said to have compelled the suspect to rush the dying girl to a nearby hospital, but the young girl was not lucky as the doctor on duty confirmed her dead.

Road accident claims 5 lives in Okada town

 Five persons have been reportedly killed in a road accident that occurred near Okada  Junction, off Benin-Lagos Expressway. The victims were said to be heading towards Okada town when their car hit a stationery lorry, killing four of the passengers instantly.

Sule, a former Permanent Representative to the United Nations, said that if Nigeria’s founding fathers were to wake up from their graves, to see Nigeria as it is today, they would be hugely disappointed at its state of affairs.

Police arrest fake job syndicate, 50 cultists in Benue

 The Benue State Police Command has apprehended a six-man Advanced Fee fraud syndicate and job racketeers whose stock in trade is to dupe unsuspecting job seekers in Benue and environs of their money under the pretext of getting them employed in a purported paramilitary outfit known as Elite Community Initiative (Corps) of Nigeria.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Daniel Ezeala, in a statement said luck ran out on the suspected fraudsters when police, acting on a tip off, swooped on them at 53, J.S. Tarka Way, Makurdi where they were allegedly training their victims.

Saudi King intervenes to help 1,345-pound man

 King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia has intervened to help a man who has become one of the heaviest people in the world.
The king ordered Khalid bin Mohsen Shaari, who weighs 1,345 pounds (610kg) and is unable to move by himself, be transferred from the Southern border province of Jazan to the country's capital Riyadh to undergo treatment.

Floods leave at least 107 dead in China

 Flooding in China's north and south caused by heavy rain has left at least 107 dead and inundated roads and farmland, the government and state media said.
Three provinces in China's northeast bore the brunt of the floods with 85 dead and 105 missing in Heilongjiang, Jilin and Liaoning as of 4pm on Monday, the government said.

New York recovers 254 guns in 'largest-ever guns bust'

 New York City police have arrested 19 people in what authorities are calling the city's largest-ever guns bust.
Police recovered 254 firearms, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said.
The guns were brought to the city from the US states of North and South Carolina by traffickers travelling on buses, authorities said.

Boko Haram leader, Shekau, 'may be dead'

 Nigeria's militant Islamist leader Abubakar Shekau may have been killed by the security forces during a shoot-out, an army spokesman has said.
An "intelligence report" showed that Shekau, the leader of the Boko Haram group, may have died between 25 July and 3 August, Lt-Col Sagir Musa said.
Boko Haram, which has waged an insurgency in Nigeria since 2009, has not commented on the statement.

 A way of firing up the body's immune system in order to attack cancer has been discovered by US researchers.
The immune system is delicately balanced so it attacks invaders but not the body's own tissues.
Animal studies suggested that shifting the balance could open up new treatments for cancer, the team from the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia said.

 The end to the present strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) may be in sight as President Goodluck Jonathan has approved N400 billion for the infrastructural development of Nigerian universities.
