A man in Ekiti State, south west Nigera has been remanded in prison for allegedly raping his 60-year-old mother.
Akintunde Omotehinde, 27, was remanded by a
Magistrate court in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, on suspicion of rape.
Mr. Ebenezer Ewuola, speaking for the prosecution, informed the court
of the incident which was purportedly committed by the accused on the
23rd of August at the Ajebamidele area of Ado-Ekiti.
Ewuola reportedly
asserted that the accused “forcefully and unlawfully” had carnal
knowledge of his mother, which led to her being hospitalized. He added
that on the same date, the accused assaulted and inflicted injuries on
one Isiaka Ojo, who attempted separating him from his mother during the
illicit act.
He said the offence contravened Section 358 of the Criminal Code Laws
of Ekiti State, 2012. The prosecutor said he had sent his case file to
the office of the Directorate of Public Prosecution for legal advice. No
plea was taken from the accused.
The Magistrate, Patricia Ajibade, ordered that the accused be
remanded in prison custody pending the DPP’s legal advice and adjourned
the case to October 16 for mention.
