Community at war with monarch over N60m compensation for relocation of shrine

The people of Ipupe Autonomous Community, Ubakala in Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State are at war with their traditional ruler Eze Chima Ubiaru over money paid for the relocation of shrines by the National Integrated Power Plants (NIPP) Abuja.

Acting President General, Ipupe Development Union Deacon Charles Nwakerendu and the Secretary General, Chimezie Ochi Ogbuaka had in letter to the monarch made available to Sunday Sun accused him of spending N10.5 million of the N60 million he received on behalf of the community from NIPP for the relocation of shrines from power construction sites, thus leaving only N9.5million.
The Ag President and Secretary General who spoke on behalf of Ipupe Development Union noted that no acceptable explanation nor evidence has been proffered for the disappearance of N40 million of the total sum paid directly into the personal bank account of the Eze in an old generation bank in Umuahia without the approval of the IDU.
He also requested that all monies deposited in any bank in respect of  community development and the Ipupe Development Union be  transferred to the union’s account.
He emphasized that the Eze was enthroned by the people of the community explaining that it was the wish of the people that his words would be his bond while his oath be oracles, adding that the community installed him and expect him to live above board in all ramifications.
Reacting to the development in a letter to the Ipupe Truth and Reconciliation Committee, Eze Chima Ubiaru stated that since the problems in Ipupe has been narrowed down to the NIPP compensation for the relocation of shrines in Ipupe forest, that in the interest of peace he would co-operate with the committee to bring about this desired peace.
He recalled the he had always maintained that what accrued to Ipupe community from the money was N20 million out of the N60 million compensation paid for the relocation of shrines.
