The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a retired naval captain, Okorie Ogbonnaya, for allegedly defrauding Oceanic Bank Plc (now Ecobank Plc) of over N540 million.
The commission also arrested Ogbonnaya’s lawyer, Emmanuel Mbajuwon, for conspiring with his client to perpetrate the fraud.

A freed inmate has made startling revelations about how the Enugu Maximum Prison authorities allegedly force prisoners to pay N2,000 fee for each of them to be transported from the prison to court to attend to their various matters. The inmate who recently regained freedom from the prison also alleged that inmates paid between N100 to N150 for a bucket of water.

Convicted killers released by mistake

A statewide review was ordered Thursday of Florida's prison records to determine whether anyone has filed forged documents like the ones used in an elaborate escape. Charles Walker and Joseph Jenkins, both 34, are considered "escapees" by authorities after investigators discovered forged motions to reduce their respective sentences and forged court orders granting the request, according to authorities.

India, China, Pakistan, Nigeria on slavery's list of shame, says report

A new report claiming to be the most comprehensive look at global slavery says 30 million people are living as slaves around the world.
The Global Slavery Index, published by the Australia-based Walk Free Foundation, lists India as the country with by far the most slaves, with an estimated nearly 14 million, followed by China (2.9 million) and Pakistan (2.1 million).
The top 10 countries on its list of shame accounted for more than three quarters of the 29.8 million people living in slavery, with Nigeria, Ethiopia, Russia, Thailand, Democratic Republic of Congo, Myanmar and Bangladesh completing the list.

No mercy for Iranian execution survivor

Ministry confirms purchase of N255m vehicles for Oduah

The Ministry of Aviation has confirmed that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority bought two bulletproof vehicles worth $1.6m (N255m) for the Minister of Aviation, Ms. Stella Oduah.
An online news medium, SaharaReporters, had reported on Tuesday that the armoured vehicles were delivered to the minister in August.
