Cult war in Rivers, as couple, 12 others are killed

Over 12 persons, among them, a couple, have been murdered in Rivers State, following violent clashes among various cult groups. The incidents took place at different times, and in various parts of the state.
The resurgence of the cult groups is said to have become a source of concern for many, who expressed fears that their nefarious activities, posed danger to Rivers people, especially, when political activities would start in full swing.
Sunday Sun gathered that some cult groups went on rampage in Elelenwo area of the state, moving from house-to-house, shooting anybody in sight.
According to our source, over five persons were killed at Elelenwo cult war on Thursday night. Affected by the Elelenwo clash were a husband and wife. The cultists were said to have banged on their door, and when the frightened couple eventually opened, following threats by the bandits, they shot them, killing the couple on the spot.
Also, on Friday, two cult groups, Greenlanders and Icelanders engaged themselves in supremacy war, which left over 12 persons dead. The battle zone was Emughan, one of the six districts that make up Abua/Odua Local Government Area of the state. The casualty figure is likely to increase, because many of them were said to have sustained bullet wounds and are in critical condition.
“Many are likely to die later, because many of them received bullet wounds, and ran into the bush,” a source told the reporter.
Our findings revealed that there is tension in the entire Abua/Odua Local Government Area, because of cult activities in the recent times.
However, many residents have expressed fears about the incessant clash among cult groups in the area. Many described them as jobless youths who were engaged by politicians to fight political opponents.
One of them who spoke to Sunday Sun on the condition of anonymity, said activities of the cultists in Abua/Odua got to a worrisome level, between 1999 and 2007.
When the reporter called the Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmad Muhammed, on phone, to comment on the activities of the cultists, he did not pick his calls. And when a text message was sent to him, to at least comment on the case of Elelenwo, where a couple was killed, he also failed to respond.
