APC zones Presidential slot to North-West as it moves to promote Buhari-Tinubu ticket for 2015

In line with its original political framework, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has concluded plans to field retired General Muhammadu Buhari as its Presidential Candidate in the forthcoming Presidential Election in 2015.
This position has been ratified by key leaders of the opposition party who have been meeting since they received defecting governors and leaders from the ruling PDP, it was gathered. It was also gathered that this position has been sent to leaders of the party at the state level and is receiving favourable attention. Buhari is expected to run with Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Leader of the party. Sources at the party said that all the defecting governors were acquainted with this position even before they joined the party. It was on this premise that Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido refused to join the party. Lamido who is nursing a Presidential ambition said pointedly that he will not sacrifice his ambition for Buhari. He said instead, he preferred to remain in PDP.  It was  further gathered that the APC leadership has planned possible plan-B options should the southern chapters reject the Buhari-Tinubu option. For instance, they are also pairing Buhari with either Okorocha or Amaechi, as his would be Vice Presidents to lure the South-East and the South-South. Alternatively, it was learnt that Aminu Waziri Tambuwal or Nasir El-Rufai would be fielded should the southern APC chapters reject Buhari. The party’s caucus meeting held in Ogun State at the weekend resolved to zone the Presidential slot to the North West, excluding the North East and the North Central. The meeting also set up a media strategy team to drive home the anti-Jonathan message. It commended the Interim Publicity Secretary of APC, Lai Mohammed for doing a marvellous job for the party. The governors were mandated to strengthen the financial base of the media strategy team with new membership from a line of prominent editors and broadcasters in the Lagos Media axis. The said editors mainly from the South-west attended the meeting. The members of the media team were further mandated to sell the candidacy of Buhari-Tinubu to the mainstream media. Observant Nigerians would have noticed that the media strategy team has started the promotion of the anointed APC Presidential candidate. More than three mainstream media newspapers have published the same report on their front pages and online versions.
