Obiano opens new Onitsha bus terminal to decongest traffic

Anambra State Governor Willie Obiano has commissioned the new ultra modern Bus Terminal at Okpoko in Ogbaru Local Government Area of the State at the ever busy Upper Iweka along Onitsha - Asaba Expressway, directing all transporters that operate along the road to desist and use the terminal henceforth.

Represented by Commissioner for Transport, Uchenna Okafor  Obiano said all road side motor parks, garage and bus stops from the Onitsha Bridge Head down to Upper Iweka have been abolished with immediate effect, warning that any vehicle found loading or offloading passengers and goods will be impounded by law enforcement agents.
He described the terminal as another giant feat of his administration, adding that the intention of government for building the Terminal is to give Anambra a more decent face commensurate to its status as The Light of the Nation.
The commissioner while reacting to report that some people who claim to be government agents but act like hoodlums contrary to government standard  are intimidating, harassing and extorting money from motorists and travellers on arrival to Onitsha  at the Bridge Head axis, he promised to flush out such people withing two weeks, as he assured that Onitsha must be given a befitting face with residents and visitors safe and free to move about and do their normal businesses.
Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka, member, Board of Trustees (BoT) of All Progressives  Grand Alliance (APGA) and Special Assistant to the Governor on Vigilante, said the Terminal is yet another great developmental goal scored by the Governor, noting that Obiano has moved Anambra forward in so many ways which includes, providing adequate security, attracting huge investors, improving on agriculture and providing 24-hour street light from Onitsha Bridge Head down to Amansea the last town in Anambra before Enugu State.

The Ogilisi Igbo said that the Terminal will enhance Obiano's drive to decongest and sanitize Onitsha and its environ, saying this can not be compromised, as he warnes those who parade themselves along the Bridge head to Upper Iweka as revenue agents to leave or face the wrath of law enforcement agents.
