Lagos PDP: Let’s rest the old warhorses


With the poor showing of the Lagos chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the 2011 governorship election, some stakeholders and members seem to be gathering fists for the next election, calling for a sanitisation of the party's leadership in the state.
Crisis may not be alien to various state chapters of the PDP in the country, but for its Lagos chapter, it would be apt to describe it as, one day one trouble chapter that has no rudder, and like wandering sheep, moves without any direction.

Kidnap kingpin gives Nigeria's President 60-day ultimatum to address demands

A dreaded and ‘most wanted’ kidnap kingpin in Delta State who doubles as leader of the new Liberation Movement of the Urhobo People (LIMUP) has given  Nigeria's President Goodluck Jonathan a  60-day ultimatum to address the sufferings of the Urhobos as well as grant amnesty to kidnappers or face attacks on oil facilities in the area.

FG to spend N4.77trn next year, rules out new capital projects

The Federal Government will spend a total of N4.77 trillion in the 2014 fiscal year with the consolidated capital budget for next year projected at N1.45 trillion.
Recurrent expenditure for next year is N2.373.291 trillion while the total  budget, net of SURE-P is expected to be N4.495.115 trillion. If the SURE-P budget of N274.340 billion is included, government will now spend a total of N4.769.455 trillion.

A Nigerian  Obabiyi Aishah Ajibola has won a beauty pageant exclusively for Muslim women in the Indonesian capital on Wednesday, a riposte to the Miss World contest that has sparked hardline anger. The 20 finalists, who were all required to wear headscarves, put on a glittering show for the final of Muslimah World, strolling up and down a catwalk in elaborately embroidered dresses and stilettos.

Court dissolves 17yrs marriage over constant beating of husband by wife


An Osogbo Magistrate’s court in Osun has dissolved a 17-year-old marriage over complaint by the husband that his wife beats him up mercilessly for going to church.  The petitioner, Mr.  Asimuyu Oladosu, told the court that his wife, Kehinde, beats him whenever he goes to church or vigil and urged the court to dissolve the marriage.

Two fishermen rescued after drifting atop capsized boat for 8 days

Two fishermen from the Bahamas are lucky to be alive after spending eight days clinging to the bottom of their overturned boat with no food or water before a cargo ship miraculously spotted the desperate pair and radioed the Coast Guard for help.
